The City located in the foothills of Mullayanagiri range, Chikmagalur is famous for coffee and is known as the 'coffee land' of Karnataka. Chikmagalur is famous for its hill stations.

Religious Places

1) Kalasa :

About 90 Kms from Chikmagalur is Kalasa in Mudigere Taluk. Travelling on K.M Road upto Kottgehara. The Landscape around is enchanting and one can view of the surrounding hill ranges, peaks and eat out at Kalasa View Point.

Nestled in the midst of evergreen hiils is Horanadu. It is about 10 kms from Kalasa and has the temple of goddess, Sri Annapoorneshwari. The Place attracts devotees throughtout the year.

It is a famous pilgrim centre situated on the banks of the river Tunga. It is about 100kms from chikmagalur. The Sri Sharada Peetha here is supposed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya the proponent of Adavaita Philosopy. Vidyashankara Temple built here is a combination of Chola, Dravidra, Nagara and Chalukya styles and stands on a platfrom of 3ft.

Adventure :

It is about 12 kms from Chikmagalur on Belur road with a deviation to the left at Hand post. Here, there are two temples of the Hoyasala period, standing side by side near an ancient tank. The temples built in 1150 AD are dedicated to Channakeshava and Siddheswara.

Traveling further from Marle, situated about 30kms from Chikmagalur, is this place where a triple shrine (Thrikutachala) in which the images of Sri Venugopalaswamy and Veera Narayanaswamy are housed. The beauty of the temple is comparable to the Keshava temple at Somanathapura. There is an “Udbhava ganapathi” temple nearby.

Magundi River Rafting
Situated between Balehonnur and Kalasa is Magundi. Here river Bhadra flows slowly with intermittent rapids creating opportunities for river rafting, swimming and other Water Spots.

Chikmagalur district in Karnataka has many peaks appropriate for trekking. The base for the trek, Sarpadhari, is further 15 km away. The entire trek is around 5 km and should take about 4 hours.The best period to go trekking in Chikmagalur is between September and February.

The town is renowned for its Chennakesava temple, one of the finest examples of Hoysala workmanship.

Halebidu (which was previously called Dorasamudra or Dwarasamudra) was the regal capital of the Hoysala Empire in the 12th century. It is home to one of the best examples of Hoysala architecture in the ornate Hoysaleswara and Kedareswara temples. This name is given because this city was ruined two times by Bahmani Sultanate.

Mullayyanagiri and Seetalayyanagiri:

These are the two places awith shrines dedicated to lord Shiva. Mullayanagiri is the tallest peak in Karnataka, They are at a distance if 24 and 20 kms from Chikmagalur, respectively. Two siddhas are supposed to have performed penance at Mullayyanagiri. There are few caves to the left of the temple where Siddhas are suppose to have performed penance. The temple is called Mullapa Swami Temple

Dharmasthala Temple which houses the shrine of Shiva,Manjunatha, Ammanavaru, Chandranath and the Dharma Daivas (Guardian Spirits of Dharma) namely Kalarahu, Kalarkayi, Kumaraswamy and Kanyakumari.The temple is unusual in that it is run by a Jain administration and poojas are conducted by Hindu priests of Madhva order.

Subramanya Lapped in the luxurious abundance of the beauty of the nature the village of Subramanya lies in the Sullia Taluk in Dakshina Kannada with a sancity which very few places can boast of. The Kukke Subrahmanya Temple situated in the heart of the village. Nature reveals herself in all her unhidden beauty in the rivers, forests and mountains which the temples is surrounded by.

Kolluru or Kollur is a small temple-town situated about 60 kilometres from Hosanagara Town, about 120 kilometres away from Shimoga City in Karnataka state in the southern part of India. This village lies at the foot of the Western Ghats and is famous for the Mookambika temple, a Hindu pilgrim center. Kollur also called Kollapura one of the important places of pilgrimage in Karnataka State, which has a temple dedicated to Mookambika.
